Henderson

Australian tenor Iain Henderson is a widely sought after performer with a strong ringing sound and an energetic performance style. Currently a Principal Artist with Opera Australia, Iain made his Company debut as Don Jose Carmen (Opera Australia National Tour) and made his mainstage debut as Pang Turandot (Opera Australia). Also with Opera Australia, Iain has performed Gastone La Traviata, Wagner & Nereo Mefistofele and Ruiz Il Trovatore and covered Prince Leopold (La Juive) and Goro (Madama Butterfly).

Iain has also performed Ferrando Cosi fan tutte (Quarantine Cosi), Vaudemont Iolanta (Les Azurialies), Sellem The Rake’s Progress (British Youth Opera), Rinuccio Gianni Schicchi (RNCM), Rosy Lickspittle (The Witch) Hansel and Gretel (RNCM), Basilio Le Nozze di Figaro, Mayor Upfold in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring, Azaël in Debussy’s L’Enfant Prodigue (QCGU).

 

On the concert stage, Iain has performed; Messa di Gloria (Puccini), Stabat Mater (Rossini) Requiem in D minor, Mass in C minor, Missa brevis in B (Mozart), Coffee Cantata [211], Cantata 78: Jesu, der du meine Seele (J.S Bach), as well as other major works by Handel, Schubert and Wagner. In 2014, Mr. Henderson performed as a guest Artist with the Worldwide phenomenon, BBC's Dr Who Symphonic Spectacular with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Iain was a regular performer with Vavachi Entertainment in Australia, a performance company hosting dinner theatre, concerts and surprise shows with a varying range of repertoire from Musical Theatre and Jazz to Classical and Opera.

Winner of the 2016 Dame Joan Sutherland Award from the Noosa Federation of the Arts, he has also won the Joyce Campbell-Lloyd Scholarship, Ronald Dowd Memorial Prize and was a semi-finalist in the 2014 Australian Singing Competition. He was also a participant in the 2013 and 2014 Lisa Gasteen National Opera School, where he worked with John Fisher, Giovanni Reggioli, Richard Hetherington and Stuart Maunder.

 

Iain studied at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester, UK) with Susan Roper and Peter Wilson, and was invited to undertake their highly sought-after International Artist Diploma.
